Osprey's Dominion Vineyards 2002 Cabernet Franc

Ospreys dominion

Osprey’s Dominion 2002 Cabernet Franc ($22), which was aged for 12 months in small oak barrels, seems fuller bodied and more lush than the double gold medal winning 2001 edition, but the flavor profile is similar.

It features an aromatic berry-forward nose with ripe raspberries, baked cherries and hot cocoa aromas.

Soft and round on the palate, this low-tannin red has a little less structure than the ‘01, but is no less delicious, with flavors matching the aromas and just enough oak character. Super-subtle hints of Italian basil add a layer of complexity that makes this wine impossible to dislike.

NYS Sheep and Wool Festival October 16-17

Wool

The Festival takes place at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds
6550 Spring Brook Ave., Rhinebeck, NY 12572

The New York State Sheep and Wool Festival is one of the largest annual gatherings of fiber-arts enthusiasts in the United States.  The festival was first held in 1972.  It is attended by knitters, crocheters, handspinners, and growers of natural-fiber-producing livestock.  The livestock includes sheep, goats, angora rabbits, llamas, musk oxen, and alpacas.  It also includes vendors of the materials and tools associated with each.  In addition to the myriad vendors and demonstrations of fiber arts activities, the festival features several livestock competitions, sheepdog trials and a sheep to shawl contest.  In 2007 for the 35th festival about 12,000 people attended. 375 vendors applied for the 275 spaces.
